Everything including the kitchen sink... but with special attention paid to board games, Jesus Christ, my family, being a "professional" (and I use that word loosely) Christian, and the random firing of the 10% of the synapses I'm currently using.

BoardGameGeek World Record Holder
It's no surprise to any regular reader of this blog that I deeply enjoy board & cards games... in fact, some of you probably consider the depth of my interest a "sickness" or an "obsession". I'm not gonna lie - you're probably right.
And now, for those of you wanting proof of how deep the madness goes, I bring you the latest honorific I've received - I'm the BGG World Record Holder in 2008 for Most Different Games With Logged Plays. (BTW, if you're interested, that 1501 different games which I've played & logged onto the BGG database.)
I'm also the runner-up for Most Games Rated (some 30 or so behind the leader with 1737 games rated). I do not, by a great amount, hold the record for most games owned - I have 985 games in my collection and the winner for that has 3158 games. (I also know of one couple in Colorado whose collection is over 20,000 games... but they haven't listed it on BGG.)
BGG = BoardGameGeek.com, which is the 900 lb elephant of the boardgaming community online - their database has over 36,000 board & card games & they receive over 800,000 unique visitors each month. To be singled out for my obsessive note-taking over that many people is either (a) a high honor, (b) possible evidence of OCD-like behavior, or (c) all of the above.
Hey, Mark! Kevin O'Brien here. Frequent reader (I've got you in Bloglines), first time poster. I'm the guy you beat out of the "most games logged" record. (Not that I was trying for it. That whole GeekList was a total surprise for me. Still, kind of cool.)
ReplyDeleteI know of *at least* two individuals who have WAY more games played than either of us, but they don't log them on BGG. So maybe we're just the most dutiful of our records on BGG. (grin)
Keep writing!
I'll bet YOU don't think I need "professional help" for logging games, do you, Kevin?! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda surprised Joe Huber doesn't pop up on this list...
I'm going to go with answer "b". Anyone on this list needs serious help, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteTom, you can speak with authority on this, of course. How many game reviews have you written now?! :-)
ReplyDeleteI game with that Colorado couple with the massive collection. It's breathtaking.
ReplyDeletePatera, they are delightful people, aren't they? I've never seen the collection in person but I hope to one day when I go to visit my sister who lives in CO.
ReplyDeleteMark,
ReplyDeleteI don't track my games played on BGG. Where I have them recorded, I've played 1773 different games 1996-present, including prototypes (but not including expansions or games I count together that BGG does not, such as the various Ticket to Ride variants); removing the prototypes would leave 1566 games; adding duplicates and expansions would leave approximately 1700.
Second, you really must see The Hoard; it really is something to behold...
Third, I'm rather glad I don't track my plays on BGG - since without doing so, and falling just short of the top games rated mark, I still finished first in four categories... B^P
I think a 900lb elephant is a small elephant.
