Classic: Maundy Thursday

...also known as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great and Holy Thursday, Sheer Thursday and Thursday of Mysteries, is the Christian feast or holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles as described in the Canonical gospels. (wikipedia)
The "Maundy", by the way, is from the Latin word Mandatum and refers to Jesus washing the feet of his disciples.

So, now that we've got the definitions out of the way... a simple question.

Why?

Why do we meet to remember the last meal Jesus had with his closest followers before he was put on trial, tortured & crucified?

I can think of two reasons:
  1. Jesus told us to. "And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22: 19 NASB)
  2. I need the reminder.
Seriously... in the busyness of work & marriage & parenting, it's easy for me to gloss over the incredible sacrifice of Christ. Slowing down to taste the dry unleavened bread and feel the fruit of the vine as it rolls down my throat becomes a very tangible way to get off the proverbial merry-go-round of life & look into Jesus' eyes.

  1. Hey, Mark! (aka, pastor guy. (; )

I've been going through table-top/board game blogs, stopping here and there to read a post or two; I've loved reading yours! I hadn't ever studied Maundy Thursday beyond reading about it in the Bible and knowing it was the day before Good Friday. It is a sobering process, and even a joy (in remembering Christ's promises that come with remembering his sacrifice), to think about His last meal with his followers.

I'm a Christian as well, but to be honest, I went looking for the blogs because I'm curious as to what the present mindset is for gamers. I've been presented with a unique opportunity to help a game developer launch his first game, we meet with a publisher next Friday. We're pretty sure we want to do this ourselves though, - and really that means doing a lot of foot work in looking for interest.

I've done marketing campaigns for other services before, I'm not too terribly worried. (That's a benefit of prayer too, I'm sure.) But if you'd be interested, I'd love to talk to you about maybe piggy-backing on your Blog by writing a post or by us having a conversation about our new company and you weighing in on it. I really don't know how many followers you have, but sometimes it isn't only about that... sometimes it's just about the happiness that comes with meeting new friends!

Don't know if you'd be interested! If you would be though, email me at: thias.incarnate.games@gmail.com
